The legendary Rob Strong brings his band to McGowans Phibsboro for the first of the Sunday Sessions 6-9 pm on 21st July 2024.

Rob is known as ‘The Godfather of Soul ’in Ireland and is revered by his peers in the music business as evident in these quotes taken from his biography

“There is no doubt in my mind that Rob Strong is world class with that big soulful voice “PAT SHORTT (RTE)

“Rob Strong is a fabulous musician- a great bass player and one hell of a singer” ERIC BELL(THIN LIZZY)

“I always thought that Rob Strong and Colm Wilkinson were the two best singers in Ireland” BRUSH SHIELS

“Rob is one of the true originals !” PAUL BRADY

Rob Strong started out in the Showband era when he fronted the iconic Plattermen band from Omagh in the late 60s and early 70s, frequently packing out huge ballrooms such as the Olympia Ballroom in Waterford, The Arcadia in Cork etc etc .In the 70s nobody in Ireland personified the raw energy of rock blues and soul music like Rob Strong . Rob’s son, Andrew Strong, toured with The Rolling Stones, Elton John and Prince after he starred as ‘Deco Cuffe’ in the smash hit movie The Commitments. Rob himself toured the UK and Europe with the Commitments band and was vocal coach for both soundtrack albums from the movie.
