This Culture Night, visitors to The Mansion House are invited to talk a walk through the public rooms of the Lord Mayor’s official residence, built by Joshua Dawson and the scene of important civic and historic events for over 300 years. Come along to have an exclusive look inside the Oak Room, Drawing Room, Dining Room, and Lady Mayoress Parlour.
The Oak Room was built as a condition of the purchase agreement with Joshua Dawson. It is, as the name suggests, panelled entirely of oak, with some of the original panelling still in place. Designed over 300 years ago for civic receptions, it is still used for this purpose today. The room contains a number of fine portraits including that of Charles Stewart Parnell, founder of the Home Rule Party. Also on show here are individual coat-of-arms of Dublin’s Lord Mayors. Each Lord Mayor meets with the Chief Herald of Ireland, who is based in the National Library, to agree on a Coat of Arms reflecting their life.
Staff will be on hand to assist visitors on their self-guided tour.
