Trinity College Dublin Launches “Pride of Trinity Trails”

Located in the heart of the capital, Trinity College Dublin’s leafy campus spans 47 acres and is filled with stunning cobblestone pathways, beautiful grounds and gardens, and iconic buildings. As well as visiting Ireland’s greatest cultural treasure, the Book of Kells, visitors can also experience a Trinity Trails guided walking tour, exploring, and discovering Trinity’s hidden gems across the historic campus and following in the footsteps of its world-famous alumni.

This Pride month, Trinity Trails have launched a new Pride of Trinity Trails tour, led by one of our expert student tour guides. Departing from the Bell Tower in Front Square, enjoy a 45-minute loop of campus whilst learning about the university’s involvement in LGBTQ+ history.

Visit the stomping grounds of Oscar Wilde, and trace back in time to the societies that debated legalising homosexuality, long before it was part of Irish public discourse.

Journey through the decades to the early 1970s when Trinity students and lecturers, including former Senator David Norris, founded the Sexual Liberation Movement, the first of its kind in Ireland. Hear about its founding members who drove the groundbreaking ‘Campaign for Homosexual Reform’, which eventually led to the decriminalisation of homosexuality in Ireland.

The tour has been created by Trinity Trails tour guide, Tess. A recent graduate of History and Sociology at Trinity, Tess explains, “I’m very interested in LGBTQI+ history. I hope my tour of Trinity College Dublin and its links to the LGBTQ+ movement will impart some of my passion on to visitors”.

The Pride of Trinity Trails tour is 45 minutes, and takes place on 15th, 22nd and 29th June 2024. Tickets are €13.50 and can be booked at //visittrinity.ie/trinity-trails/trinity-trails-dublin-pride-tour/

Visitors to Trinity can also enjoy affordable overnight stays in the heart of campus with heritage bedrooms available to book throughout the summer months. Choose from singles, twins, doubles or apartments, and wake up to a delicious breakfast served in The Buttery café. Rooms are available to book at //visittrinity.ie/stay.

All sales generated by Trinity Trails and Summer Accommodation are reinvested back into the College to support the academic mission of the university and fund development projects and conservation programmes.
