The team in the Woollen Mills are respecting Mental Health this March, through a new initiative that highlights greater awareness and support around mental health particularly within the hospitality industry.
During the month of March, the iconic north Dublin landmark, will donate €1 from every sale of their ‘Under YourWing’ chicken wings to mental health charity, Pieta House.
This initiative is part of a programme undertaken by the restaurant to foster support and dialogue around mental health in the industry. Since 2017, The Winding Stair Group which includes The Woollen Mills, The Winding Stair, The Legal Eagle, The Washerwoman and The Yarn, provides its staff with access to a 24/7 mental wellbeing support programme which offers confidential counselling services and support to employees and their families.
Mental health challenges within the hospitality are endemic and The Woollen Mills encourages its staff to reach out and ask for help in a bid to remove the stigma surrounding mental health needs. The restaurant’s staff have access to long-term professional counselling funded entirely by the organisation.
Elaine Murphy, Director of The Winding Stair Group said, “We are hoping to highlight not just the difficulties people face in speaking up, but also the very real financial impediments to seeking professional help. Hospitality is a tough industry and many of the people working within it struggle with addiction and depression.
It’s important that we have an open conversation where, even on an employee’s first day, we can have a quick chat about mental health by highlighting this service.
“We have always found our customers to be incredibly supportive of our fundraising efforts, particularly during our Christmas Street Smart Campaign to combat homelessness and this gives them a chance to support the amazing work that Pieta House do. We encourage Dubliners to drop in for a sharing bowl of delicious wings and we will donate €1 for every bowl sold.”
‘Under your Wing’ is a delicious bowl of dry herb-rubbed wings, served with Bob Gibson’s tarragon vinegar white sauce and are priced at €12 (starter) and €17 (main).
