Teeling Whiskey

Teeling Whiskey Distillery, the first new distillery in Dublin in over 125 years. The craft of distilling has been brought back to the heart of Dublin city centre. A fantastic spot to visit.
Since 1782 the Teeling Family has been crafting Irish whiskey and it all began with Walter. In 1782 Walter Teeling set up a craft distillery on Marrowbone Lane in the Liberties area of Dublin commencing a 230 year tradition of distilling for the Teeling family. From Walter Teeling to the latest generation of Teelings in Jack and Stephen who are carrying on the family’s legacy and forging a bright new future for distilling in Dublin and for Irish whiskey.
The new distillery is right back where they started in 1782 and only a stone’s throw away from where Walter Teeling’s old distillery was. Located in an ancient market square called Newmarket, an area long associated with brewing and distilling, the new distillery is a three copper pot still operation reviving the traditional style of Dublin whiskey distillation.
The tour brings you on a journey of the process of making Teeling whiskey from the construction of the building to the actual distillation of the alcohol.
From grain to bottle many hands are involved in their small batch production process to ensure that each bottle of Teeling is crafted to the highest standard possible. Each bottle carries the signature of Jack Teeling along with details of the casks used and when bottled reinforcing the hand crafted nature of Teeling Whiskey.
We tried the trinity tasting after the tour. This consisted of small batch, single grain and single malt. The influence of the rum cask and higher percentage alcohol creates a unique smooth, sweet, slightly woody marriage that sparkles on the tongue for the small batch. The single grain has a strong spice at the start developing into lush red berries and grapes, with drying tannin effect at the end. The single malt has a balance mix of dry fruits, citrus, vanilla, spice and cloves. For those of you who aren’t the biggest lovers of whiskey (it is definitely an acquired taste!) there are some beautiful cocktails on offer.
Their philosophy is that while they are respectful to the rich provenance and heritage of Irish whiskey, as a new generation of Irish whiskey makers they are confident to forge a new future for Dublin and Irish whiskey. Their distillery is open for visitors from 9.30am-5.30pm everyday allowing you to come see, smell and experience a real operational distillery and interact with the people making Teeling whiskey.
