Raising a glass to 250 years of the Long Hall

  • Thu, 17 Nov 2016

We’ve written elsewhere on DublinTown about the storied history of the Long Hall pub of South Great George’s Street. But we were lucky enough to experience that special atmosphere only the other night when to celebrate their quarter of a millennium in business they launched their very special single cask Long Hall Powers whiskey.

John Power & Sons of course have almost as long a connection with Dublin as the Long Hall does, their history stretching back to 1791 and their distilling premises at John’s Lane just off Thomas Street. Indeed the bottling works for Powers were located just across the road from the Long Hall on Drury Street right up until the 1970s. So it made sense for these two historic Dublin institutions to team up for a special commemorative event.

The result was the creation of a Long Hall single cask Powers whiskey. The Long Hall is the only place you’ll find it and the single cask yielded just 252 bottles, so it really is a limited edition. Each bottle comes in its own presentation case with an image of the pub’s famous facade adorning the box.

We were lucky enough to try a taste of this bespoke elixir and although we wouldn’t be the greatest whiskey experts we can certainly attest to its smoothness and flavour. If you’re looking to treat yourself this Christmas you could do worse than drop into Marcus, Val and the folks and sample a glass.
