- Sat, 26 Nov 2022
The new exhibition, ReJOYce at 2, Central Plaza will showcase the breadth of award-winning design across all aspects of commercial design over the past 50 years and will run until 2 December.
ReJOYce is funded by Design & Crafts Council Ireland (DCCI) as part of Design Week 2022. The exhibition which is being hosted by Hines, has been jointly curated by the incoming President of the IDI, Mary Doherty and design historian Mary-Ann Bolger as well as a select panel of industry experts.
Helen Walsh , Senior Design Manager with Hines said: “High-quality cutting-edge design is the hallmark of every project Hines puts its name to globally and we are therefore especially delighted to be associated with this timely exhibition celebrating 50 years of design across all facets of the industry – fashion, digital, product, visual communications, architecture and interior design. It is prescient too for this venue – 2 Central Plaza and the adjacent 1 Central Plaza are the city’s newest reimagined spaces, designed by celebrated architect Sam Stephenson in the early 1970’s. These are buildings that people have been debating and admiring and even revering for over 50 years and it is therefore more than appropriate that IDI should choose to celebrate the accomplishments of Irish design at this most celebrated location.”
The ReJOYce exhibition is open to all – The exhibition charts some of the key pieces of design that have made an impact over the past five decades. From the Logitech computer mouse designed over many years by Design Partners in Bray, through to stunning sculptural leather fashion by Una Burke, visitors will be able to see how designers have partnered successfully with businesses down through the decades to improve their products and services.
IDI President, Mary Doherty, said: “Over the past 50 years, the IDI has supported thousands of designers in Ireland, and our new public exhibition, ReJOYce, is an opportunity to showcase the breadth of quality design in Ireland. A mark of good design is that often, you barely notice it, and the people and businesses behind good design also tend to stay in the background. Our 50th anniversary is an opportunity to turn up the dial, amplify the role of design in everyone’s lives, and to also amplify the voice of Irish designers. ”
The new exhibition, ReJOYce at 2, Central Plaza will be open to the public from 12:00 midday to 6:00pm from Tuesdays to Saturdays; 1:00pm to 4:00pm on Sundays and will run till Saturday, 2 December.
