Go To Blazes returns: the award-winning dance experience mixing live performance and virtual reality set to wow audiences at this year’s Bloomsday Festival
Back by popular demand, the Irish Times Irish Theatre Award-winning Go To Blazes by David Bolger is set to captivate audiences once again with exclusive performances from June 14-18. Presented by CoisCéim Dance Theatre and MoLI, this multi-sensorial response to Ulysses Episode 4 has earned considerable acclaim from critics and audiences alike. Inspired by Joyce’s iconic work, the performance will take audience members on an intimate VR-infused journey designed to linger long after they’ve left the theatre.
In Go To Blazes, three extraordinary dancers embark on a deeply personal, thrilling journey, accompanied by an original composition and a world-class creative team. The one-of-a-kind experience offers audiences a mesmerizing blend of dance, virtual reality, and artistic innovation. The innovative performance also features scents found in Ulysses – from fresh bread to foul flower water – crafted by Justine Cooper and eco-conscious costumes designed by Arran Murphy in collaboration with Rediscover Fashion.
In creating this artistic experiment, David Bolger said:
“When starting to research the text, I realized just how much of Ulysses is in our DNA. Joyce’s writing captures so much of the city and its people. I found so many contemporary references in Joyce’s multi-layered storytelling coupled with tantalizingly teasing references to Homer’s Odyssey. His great way of writing the inner and outer thoughts of his characters has inspired Go To Blazes, and we are excited for audiences to experience this special performance once more.”
In a pioneering move, CoisCéim has introduced “Pay What You Can” ticket pricing for the performances, allowing audiences to choose a price that works for them, ranging from €10 – €50. This initiative aligns with the company’s commitment to accessibility, as outlined in their 2022-2027 Strategic Plan.
Tickets are on sale now here. CoisCéim is proud to be funded by the Arts Council of Ireland and supported by Dublin City Council and Culture Ireland. Find out more here.
