Father’s Day
- Sat, 14 Jun 2014
Today is the day when we think about our good ole’ Da, spoil him a bit and give him full control of the remote!
A recent survey by Irish Life revealed some lovely and interesting insights into fathers in Ireland today;
- ‘Dad’ is the most popular name for fathers (52%) with ‘Da’ (11%) and ‘Daddy’ (8%) the other most popular names.
- 27% of those surveyed claim ‘seeing their children grow and develop’ as the best part of being a father.
- 31% of those surveyed would consider a weekend away with their wife/partner as the ideal gift for Father’s Day, compared to just 4% who would prefer a golf day out with friends.
- ‘Playing in the park’ topped the poll as the favourite way to spend time with children (28%) with football being called out as the best game to play.
Also conducted was a poll of ‘Most Inspiring Father’, where over 300 Irish Dads said that Barack Obama and Micheal D Higgins are the top two most inspiring fathers. After the Presidents came Keith Duffy and Ronan O’Gara in the rankings, and then to our shock, Walter White, the anti-hero from hit TV show Breaking Bad ranked two places above Ireland and Leinster rugby icon Brian O’Driscoll.
To all the Irish Dads today, you may not be on the list but you’re pretty inspiring to us! Keep up the good work!
Happy Father’s Day!
