Elegant and Striking Refurbishment of Suites and Rooms at The Westbury
- Wed, 16 Jun 2021
Following a complete refurbishment, the individually designed guest rooms and suites offer luxurious furnishings and exemplary five-star comfort in the heart of Dublin City, with newly launched Terrace Suites providing incomparable picturesque views
The five-star Westbury Hotel, a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, is renowned for its central location, unmatched luxury and warm welcome. The entire team at The Westbury are delighted to finally welcome guests through the doors and up the iconic sweeping staircase once again, with the addition of unveiling newly designed guest rooms and suites situated on the hotel’s luxurious 5th floor.
The new design concept for The Westbury reflects the vision of Chairman Bernie Gallagher. It was realised in collaboration with renowned Dublin architect Denis Looby, a long-time consultant with The Doyle Collection. Bernie Gallagher, the daughter of legendary hotelier PV Doyle, is personally invested in the design process of every property – creating a unique sense of style and place with an overriding emphasis on quality and longevity, hallmarks of The Doyle Collection.
Included in this refurbishment is also the launch of a new room category – the Luxury Terrace Suites. Each of these extraordinary and unique spaces are individually designed and offer expansive views of Dublin City. The luxurious accommodations feature an Italian marble four- piece bathroom with freestanding bath, mirrored cocktail bar, ample wardrobe space, and sumptuous furnishings, offering the privacy and comfort of luxury apartment living combined with all the amenities of a five-star hotel.
The look, while contemporary, is inspired by the 1930s ‘Grande Hotel’ Art Deco style which has become indicative and synonymous with The Westbury. This is reflected in the materials, patterns and design details found throughout each individual room. The use of marble, burr walnut and maple, polished brass and facetted mirror creates timeless opulence, while monochrome decorative schemes accented with tones of silver and gold, pale pink and eau de nil and subdued navy tones bring refinement, elegance and a sense of calm. Selected suites also feature outstanding contemporary art from the Doyle family’s personal collection, including works by Irish artists Donald Teskey, Colin Middleton and Aidan Bradley.
The epitome of understated luxury, guest rooms and suites at The Westbury provide spacious accommodation with thoughtful contemporary design, showcasing the best of Irish and international workmanship combined with the latest technology. Guest rooms feature custom woven carpets, crisp Lissadell Ireland linens, George Smith armchairs, B&B Italia sofas, and Decca headboards. One existing design element on the floor that has been retained for its beauty as well as Art Deco influence are the vintage Murano wall lights situated in the lobby.
The overall scheme throughout highlights home comforts in sumptuous materials and muted hues, with a backdrop to an eclectic mix of antique and contemporary furniture, ensuring a synergy throughout the newly refurbished suites and the hotel as a whole.
Speaking about the refurbishment, Denis Looby said: “Our fundamental design principle for The Doyle Collection is to treat each hotel individually, in a way that complements the building, its architectural style and location, and to use the best quality materials and finishes available.” He continues, “At The Westbury, we focused on the Art Deco-inspired detailing of public spaces, in particular The Gallery, and sought to bring some of that sparkle and glamour to the new bedrooms and suites. The schemes – employing exotic marbles, bespoke furnishings and flattering lighting, while ultimately contemporary, are redolent of a more elegant and decadent age.”
Bernie Gallagher, Chairman of The Doyle Collection, commented: “The new guest rooms and suites at The Westbury are designed to meet the practical needs of the modern traveller and to address that desire for escapism that we all crave when we take a trip – whether for work, a night away or an extended holiday. I am constantly on the lookout for what is new and innovative and what I believe will stand the test of time. The light and elegant design touches throughout these spaces and the meticulous attention to detail deliver comfort and create a sense of calm. The overall effect is relaxing, romantic and chic, making for a truly memorable guest experience.”
The luxurious new refurbishment further cements The Westbury Hotel’s position as one of the finest five-star hotels in Ireland and the world.
