Dublin Champions

Anyone who has been around the city centre in recent years is sure to have noticed our information kiosks that are located at strategic points around town. You may also have seen the Street Ambassador team helping visitors to the city in their distinctive red jackets. In fact each year the Street Ambassadors assist over 300,000 visitors to the city from the information kiosks, aboard the more than 100 cruise ships that dock in Dublin Port and along the city streets. For us they really are Dublin Champions.
The Street Ambassadors get asked for tourist maps, directions to the city’s many attractions, recommendations for places to shop and socialise and also get a huge range of queries from ordinary Dubs about everything from bus stop locations to the height of the Spire.
To try and ensure that the team give out the most complete and up-to-date information we arrange for briefings with major city attractions and businesses through our “Meet the Business” programme while also availing of the various training initiatives that Fáilte Ireland have to offer.
The team have just completed the Dublin Champions programme which was launched this year by Fáilte Ireland. They describe the scheme as one that “supports front-line staff to really deliver the best of Dublin to their visitors. Once complete, the participants will have a comprehensive and confident understanding of what Dublin can deliver and they will be able to apply this knowledge to what their visitors are looking for.”
This entailed intensive two-day training sessions with Fáilte Ireland staff as well as training and interaction with Fáilte Ireland tourism products that are currently available to visitors to our fair city. Having completed the training the Street Ambassador crew received their Dublin Champions accreditation at a reception in the grand surroundings of City Hall earlier this month alongside tourism staff from many of the city’s most popular hotels, attractions and hospitality businesses.
