A Collection of Hidden Gems
Dublin streets; we’re a city of grand boulevards, snaking medieval tracts, hills and quays and labyrinthine back lanes. You can walk from broad O’Connell Street or teeming Grafton Street and find yourself down a little side street you never knew was even there. It’s part of the higgledy-piggledy charm of our fair city. And one of our favourite of these little side streets is Anne’s Lane.
If you don’t know Anne’s Lane you’re missing out, it’s a little side street off South Anne Street which is itself a branch off Grafton Street. If you’ve ever gone for a pint in the iconic Kehoe’s pub, or looked at the Georgian splendour of St. Ann’s Church you’ve probably walked by Anne’s Lane but maybe you didn’t realise just how much it had to offer.
If you’re in town and looking for an authentic Thai meal you might have dropped down the lane to the Chilli Club to sample one of the country’s original Thai establishments. The food offering has developed further with the recent addition of Indie Dhaba a top quality Indian restaurant with a great cocktail bar.
For those who are shopaholics among you there’s a whole lot on offer in such a small space, from the best in suits and formal wear in Dorian Black’s to the latest in Bridal Fashions in Myrtle Ivory, sure you can even get your favourite pair of brogues re-soled by the lads in the Italian Heel Bar
Where Anne’s Lane really comes alive is in the evenings. Thanks to the popularity of Dawson Street as a dining, socialising and clubbing Mecca the lane has become a destination in its own right. You can access your favourite watering hole, whether it be 37 Dawson , the Dawson Brasserie or Sam’s Bar from Anne’s Lane, just in case you’re trying to avoid the paparazzi. You can even have a flutter and do your best James Bond impression at one of the card or roulette tables in the Sporting Emporium, a great spot for Christmas parties or those after-work functions.
We’ll be doing a series of features about some of our favourite spots in this hidden gem of a lane, so keep an eye on DublinTown because you won’t want to miss out.
