Judges Announced for the Dublin Fashion Festival 2014 Young  Designer of the Year

Dublin Fashion Festival brought to you by DublinTown returns to the streets of the capital from Thursday, 4th September until Sunday, 7th September and, as well as the usual fun of shopping and socialising, the search is on again for the 2014 Young Designer of the Year.

Searching for the most creative and innovative designs that can own the runway, the Dublin Fashion Festival Young Designer of the Year judging panel consists of Ireland’s leading fashion commentators, icons, designers and buyers including the Irish Independent’s fashion editor, Bairbre Power; renowned fashion photographer, Barry McCall; TV3 Xpose producer Debbie O’Donnell and buyers and owners from high end stores across the city. Young designers from across Ireland will have the chance to showcase their vision for fashion, and compete for the title of Young Designer of the Year in one of Ireland’s largest fashion events. Along with the coveted title prize package includes a fashion portfolio shoot with Barry McCall and cutting edge gadgets from Microsoft Mobile devices including the Lumia 1020 with 41mp camera and Carl Zeiss lens. To enter, budding designers need to send in images or a short video of their work by email to youngdesigner@dff.ie before 5.30pm on Friday, 1st August, 2014.

Last year’s winner, Claire Lynam, is preparing to pass on her Young Designer of the Year title after a very successful year. Following her graduation from NCAD, Claire is now a design assistant at River Island in London. Claire’s interesting and dynamic designs won her the title last year, against many other young and talented entrants and now the search is on for the next big thing in fashion.

The judges will choose a shortlist of 12 to take part in a spectacular outdoor fashion show on the grounds of the Bank of Ireland on College Green, Dublin on the evening of Thursday 4th of September. The designers’ pieces will be showcased in front of an invited audience of key fashion influencers including fashion media, fashion buyers and established designers. Applicants must be available during the Dublin Fashion Festival, which runs from Thursday, 4th September to Sunday, 7th September, 2014.

Speaking at the launch of this year’s Young Designer of the Year, festival director Clyde Carroll commented, “the designs from the young Irish designers last year was very impressive. We’ve a huge amount of talent in this country for fashion design and we’re delighted to use the festival as an opportunity to support and showcase our young designers. There is no cost to enter this competition so I would encourage any young designer to enter.”
