The sandwich – the star of the show every lunch time. The holy grail of the midday meal. Here are some DublinTown businesses that take sandwich creation as serious as we do.

The Pig and Heifer
Amiens Street

Opening in 1996 with a single clear objective, to bring genuine New York delicatessen foods to Dublin, The Pig and Heifer were the first of it’s kind in Ireland. They boast an original New York recipe for pastrami, and the first in Ireland to serve real ‘pastrami on rye’.

Ann’s Bakery

Their break is baked fresh on site using traditional techniques.

A bit of a special one here, The Reuben. The Reuben Sandwich origins may come all the way from Nebraska, but the best one you’ll find in Dublin is at Morelands Grill. It’s an American grilled sandwich composed of corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Russian dressing, grilled between slices of rye bread. Delicious.

The Tram Café is a old style Tram bursting with character right off Henry street. It recently won Best Café Design at the Irish Cafe Awards 2019. Their sandwiches are simple yet delicious, Ham & Cheese, Pastrami, Beetroot & Goats Cheese and the DublinTown Hottie. Yep, you read that right, The DublinTown hottie. Cheddar, chicken, carmelized onins, grapes and mustrad and mayo. YUM. All of their sandweiches are excellently priced at €5 too. Barg.

Pepperpot Café
Powerscourt Townhouse Centre

A favourite of ours. Their bacon, cheddar and pear sandwich is a cut above the rest. The bread is always as fresh as it could come, the ingrediants fragrant and delicious. It’s a place you’ll happily return again and again. And the fact that it’s located in the bustling and beautiful Powerscourt Townhouse Centre is a plus!

Grogans
South William Street

In our humble opinion, one cannot compile a list of sandwiches in Dublin and not mention the ham and cheese toastie in Grogans. It stand the test of time and ever changing trends and tastes of Dublin. If you know, you know. And if you dont, stop what youre doing and get down to Grogans for a pint and a sambo.

The OG of on the go sandwich making. Need we say more. Fresh ingredients, fresh bread, and crisps come on the side – heaven.

The shop we wish we could do our weekly shop in every week. Their extensive food market is located on the bottom floor of their Suffolk Street premises and it’s filled with fresh and interesting baked goods, condiments and treats.
